Amount per serving

Visualizing The Future Value Amount (FV)

Let’s assume that the interest rate, the length of time, and the present value are known, and the future value is the component we don’t know. If a present value of $1,000 is invested at 6% per year and compounded annually for four years, what is the future value amount?

The following timeline depicts the known components and the unknown component (FV):

As illustrated in the four timelines above, there is a logical connection between present value and future value. (Learn more about Future Value of a Single Amount.)

Interest on interest. For example, if $1,000 is deposited in an account earning interest of 6% per year the account will earn $60 in the first year. In year two the account balance will earn $63.60 (not $60.00) because 6% interest is earned on $1,060. Similarly the bank paying the interest will incur interest on interest.

In financial accounting this term refers to the amount of debt excluding interest. Payments on mortgage loans usually require monthly payments of principal and interest.

Dietary Fats

Dietary fats are the third pillar of a well-balanced and healthy diet. The good fats—typically in liquid form or derived from plants or nuts—play a major role in all bodily functions, such as metabolism, cell functioning, etc.

One teaspoon roughly equals a single serving of fats and oils.

One visual cue to keep in mind when consuming butter is the size of your thumb. That’s roughly the equivalent of two tablespoons.

The exact breakdown

Aim for as much as 15 to 25 percent of your daily calorie intake coming from healthy sources of dietary fats.

As with everything else, these recommendations are not written in stone. So feel free to re-adjust according to your fitness level, personal needs, and exercise intensity. Make sure you’re consuming the right kinds of fats—the monounsaturated fats and omega-3 polyunsaturated fats—you don’t need to worry bout the rest.

For example, if you’re having 2400 calories per day, roughly 500 should be dietary fats. That translates to 60 to 65 grams of fat.

The only exception is if you’re on a keto diet. That’s a different story for another day. Find the complete guide to ketogenic eating here.

One serving of healthy fats equals to:

  • Eight olives
  • One tablespoon of olive, sunflower, sesame, canola, or peanut oil.
  • One tablespoon of salad dressing
  • One tablespoon of low-fat mayonnaise
  • ¼ of a medium avocado
  • One tablespoon of peanut butter
  • ½ ounce of nuts or seeds
  • Two tablespoons of flaxseeds
  • Three ounces of fatty fish—such as tuna, salmon, or mackerel. Great source of omega-3 fats.

Which is better? 100g/ml or Serving size?

With respect to India, nutrient declaration as per 100g/ml of the food product is a more established, standard and widely followed practice of declaration. Serving Size on the other hand, is a newer concept with only a few manufacturers adopting it. The U.S FDA has defined serving size as the amount that people typically eat or drink in one sitting.

If the values of nutrients are denoted as per their serving size, then these values will be different in different products and will therefore lack the ability to be compared with similar products in a category, unlike that of products declared as per 100g/ml.

In the case of nutrient profiling, which is done to classify or rank the product on the basis of its nutrients, nutrient declaration per serving size is preferred. The reason is that calculations done for 100g of a product may give out wrong results and impressions. For example, energy-rich foods consumed in lesser quantities like nuts will get a high energy score, while products like sugar-sweetened beverages usually consumed in quantities above 100ml, will get a favourable score. Hence although nuts are much healthier, sweetened beverages score better in terms of energy.

From the consumer’s perspective, indicating nutrient information per serve is much more recognizable because consumers can better relate these values with respect to their portions. However, there have been tremendous concerns about the variability in serving sizes declared on the pack among products of different and same categories. Since serving size is set by manufacturers themselves, certain of them indicate large serving sizes to increase the nutritional values of their product. This misleading information fools the consumer who thinks that the product is nutrient-rich.

One disadvantage of declaring nutrition information per 100g/ml is that in the case of lightweight products like powders, nutrient information per 100g will mislead the consumer as he/she may think that consuming one serving of the product will provide the nutrients as declared for 100g.

How can I keep track of how much I eat?

Checking food labels for calories per serving is one step toward managing your food portions. It’s also important to keep track of

  • what you eat
  • when you eat
  • where you eat
  • why you eat
  • how much you eat

Create a food tracker on your cellphone, calendar, or computer to record the information. Or you can download apps available for mobile devices to help you track how much you eat—and how much physical activity you get—each day. For example, the Start Simple with MyPlate app tells you how to get started and is free to download and use.

The sample food tracker in Figure 5 below shows what a 1-day page of a food tracker might look like. In the example, the person chose fairly healthy portions for breakfast and lunch to satisfy hunger. The person also ate five cookies in the afternoon out of boredom rather than hunger.

By 8 p.m., the person was very hungry and ate large portions of high-fat, high-calorie food at a social event. An early evening snack of a piece of fruit and 4 ounces of fat-free or low-fat yogurt might have prevented overeating less healthy food later. The number of calories for the day totaled 2,916—more than most people need. Taking in too many calories may lead to weight gain over time.

Figure 5. Sample food tracker

Thursday

Soft drink 12 fl. oz. 136
Latte Espresso coffee with whole milk, 16 ounces 196
Total Calories = 2,916

If you find that you eat even when you’re not hungry, like the person in the food tracker example, try distracting yourself from food by doing something else instead. For instance,

  • call or visit a friend
  • if at work, take a break and walk around the block, if your work and schedule permit
  • try a healthier option, such as a piece of fruit, a handful of nuts, or carrot sticks and hummus

Using your tracker, you may become aware of when and why you consume less healthy foods and drinks. This information may help you make different choices in the future.

The Basics of Daily Percent Values

Percent daily what now?  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for coming up with those Nutrition Facts labels we see on the packaging of all of our store-bought foods.  Those little babies hold the key to all that is good!  Just kidding.  But they do hold the key to all that’s in your food!

The information you see on those labels lets you know the nutritional value and serving size of whatever’s in that package.

The labels show us things like:

  • Serving size
  • How many servings are in the container
  • Fat content
  • Carb count
  • Fiber content
  • Some of the various vitamins and minerals that may be present
  • Protein content

Nutrition Facts labels have their own set of standards they must adhere to.  Companies can’t just print whatever the heck they want!  They have to include a standard set of nutrition facts and must format their packaging as required by the FDA.

On the right-hand side of the Nutrition Facts label, you will see a column labeled as “%DV.”  That stands for Percent Daily Value.  Ah-ha!  Finally, we’re getting somewhere.  Those percentages are based on the recommended American diet of 2,000 calories per day.  Now, a person’s dietary needs are as unique as their fingerprints, but this gives us something to go off of.

How can I manage portions when eating out?

Although it may be easier to manage your portions when you cook and eat at home, most people eat out from time to time—and some people eat out often. Try these tips to keep your food portions in check when you’re away from home.

  • Share a meal with a friend or take half your meal home.
  • Avoid all-you-can-eat buffets. Instead, choose restaurants that offer some healthy food choices in controlled portions.
  • Order one or two healthy appetizers or side dishes instead of a whole meal. Options include steamed or grilled—instead of fried—seafood or chicken, a salad with dressing on the side, or roasted vegetables.
  • Ask to have the basket of bread or chips removed from the table.
  • If you have a choice, pick the small-sized—rather than large-sized—drink, salad, or frozen yogurt.
  • Look for calorie information next to food and drink items on menus and menu boards to understand how many calories are in a standard restaurant portion.
  • Stop eating and drinking when you’re full. Put down your fork and glass. Focus on enjoying the setting and company for the rest of the meal.

Is getting more food for your money always a good value?

Have you noticed that it costs only a few cents more to get the large fries or soda instead of the regular or small size? Although getting the super-sized meal for a little extra money may seem like a good deal, you end up with more calories than you need for your body to stay healthy. Before you buy your next “value meal combo,” be sure you are making the best choice for your wallet and your health.

Продукт A 100 5 10

eCPM marketing and advertising

As we mentioned, eCPM is also critical for measuring and optimizing the performance of user acquisition campaigns — the higher the campaign’s eCPM, the more impressions it’ll win and the faster it’ll scale.

Take a look at the graph below and remember that eCPM for user acquisition managers equals CPI multiplied by IPM. That means Campaign A has an eCPM of $5, Campaign B $10, and Campaign C is upwards of $40.

Campaign A’s eCPM is too low to win a high share of voice on the network, while Campaign B’s eCPM is good enough to win a majority of a network’s impressions. Campaign C, meanwhile, has such a high eCPM that UA managers can actually increase their margins, or lower their CPI, and still see the same campaign performance. That’s usually due to an incredibly high IPM, from a high-performing creative.
